This wonderful annual from Central America likes full sun, regular watering and grows to 1 metre in height when in full bloom, with purple flowers.Plant in spring, remembering it prefers a sheltered site as has brittle stems. Chia contains Omega -3, has no gluten and lots of amino acids. It can be eaten raw as a dietary extra; seeds are also soaked and used in porridge ,puddings, etc.Grow out plants this year and save the seed for using and some for planting out next season. $5.00 packet.

Herb Recipes

120g butter,
180g sifted flour,
60g sugar,
1-2tbsp finely chopped rosemary leaves.

Cream the butter and sugar, add rosemary, flour and mix. Roll into small balls, put on oven tray. Press flat with fork.

Bake at 200 deg.C for 10-12 minutes. Remove with slice and put on rack to cool.
